As the earliest capital of the Safavid dynasty, it has served as the heart of Persian rug production since the 15th century and its rugs reflect the excellent craftsmanship of some of the regions most skilled producers. Unlike tribal and village rugs, Tabriz rugs were constructed in commercial workshops with highly specialized roles: dyers prepared the dye lots and
